In Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh’s Agriculture Promotion Council has initiated a project to integrate solar panels above standing rice fields. Elevated solar arrays provide shade to the waterlogged fields and generate electricity. Initial panels produce enough energy to power local irrigation pumps while rice yields increased by 10% due to microclimate adjustments. The model promotes dual-use of farm land, energy generation, and food production. Co-location trials are being expanded to additional paddy basins under the state’s agro-energy initiative.
